NORTH SULPHUR RIVER FOSSILS COLLECTION at ENLOE MUSEUM

The Clara Foster Slough Museum is collecting and exhibiting fossils and artifacts, discovered along the North Sulphur River.  Known to hardcore fossil hunters as a source for Late Cretaceous and Pleistocene fossils, the river bed and banks can reveal much about the ancient life forms that once called the region home.

The efforts of the Enloe Museum, will be to identify and document the discoveries of fossil hunters, and to display a variety of the artifacts from the North Sulphur River.  The museum staff will partner with the Dallas Paleontological Society, along with area universities and museums, to identify any artifacts which might be discovered, that can not be identified.

The Clara Foster Slough Museum staff would like to invite anyone, with a North Sulphur River area fossil or artifact discovery, to bring the piece by the museum for identification and documentation.  Photos and specifics of area finds will be recorded, and the database will be made available to future fossil hunters and researchers.  Please remember to stop by the museum, with your specimens, during your North Sulphur River excursions !

Enloe Museum intern Lane Duncan, presents the museum with two great books, to assist in identification of North Sulphur River fossils and artifacts.

Delta County School of Kensing Quilt Project on Display at Enloe Museum

The Clara Foster Slough Museum staff are extremely proud to have on display, a quilt from Nell Cooper Jeter and her second grade class.  The quilt was a project, from students at the Delta County School of Kensing, and is believed to have been constructed in around 1920.  The quilt is in amazing condition, and features original artwork of the students in Ms. Jeter's class.  The artwork also exhibits the names of the students, and research is underway to identify the individuals and families of these students who worked to construct such an amazing quilt !

Stop by to visit the Enloe Museum, and take a look at the most recent exhibit additions !

Peters Colony Historical Society Provides Elm Fork Echoes

The Peters Colony Historical Society group has recently announced the release of a limited supply of Elm Fork Echoes publications.  The group has inventoried a collection of issues, and will release some of the sets to selected area groups.  The Clara Foster Slough Museum is excited to have been able to make arrangements for a complete set of the publications, to be provided to the museum in Enloe !

Lane Duncan was also presented with two publications, by author Paul Kramer, a member of the Peters Colony Historical Society.  Kramer has completed 'The Providential History of the State of Texas' and 'The Providential History of Carrollton/Farmers Branch', and provided autographed copies of each to be added to the Enloe Museum library collection.

The Elm Fork Echoes contain a variety of historical information, including interviews and tales from area families.  We are excited to be able to archive and share the incredible amount of first hand information, recorded in each of these issues.

Enloe Museum Bricks

The Clara Foster Slough Museum has declared 2014, the year of the brick !  The museum has cleaned and stockpiled bricks, to create front and side walls for the museum.  The rear expansion is also incorporating brick into the flooring.  The real showcase of bricks, will be the front walkway !  We need to complete the front walkway with the memorial and contributor brick.  There exists a limited number of brick spaces, for the front walkway, for personalized brick to be installed.  These have been a great fund raiser for the museum, as well as an awesome way to recognize people, families, groups, and companies, that are and have been important to Enloe.  Please consider ordering a brick, to support the museum, and especially, to remind those who enter and walk the sidewalk, of those who are a part of the history of Enloe !

Lane Duncan tends to a few weeds on the Enloe Museum walkway.

Clara Foster Slough Museum sidewalk bricks will be a focus for 2014 projects.

The sidewalk bricks provided for the Clara Foster Slough Museum by generous contributors.

Lane Duncan plans to learn about laying brick in 2014, at the Clara Foster Slough Museum.

Basically, this is how it works:

To purchase a brick, provide the engraving you would like to have etched into the brick.
Use a maximum of three lines, with a maximum of 18 letters per line, in your design.
Send us your requested lettering for the brick to:

ENLOE MUSEUM
ATTN: BRICK PROGRAM
PO BOX 63
ENLOE, TX 75441

With your request, please submit a check, money order, cashiers check, or some form of barter, for the amount of $ 50.00

We appreciate each and every brick requested, and recognize the importance of each contributor in this program.

For more information on ordering brick, contact the Clara Foster Slough Museum at enloemuseum@gmail.com

* Also, we plan to salute, each and every brick donor, memorial, or sponsor, via our FaceBook page.  The salute can be on a birthday, anniversary, or any special day.  We may choose these at random, or if you would like to provide a requested date of remembrance, please include.  Any interesting detail or story, should be included with your brick purchase, as this will be recorded in the museum, and used for future references to your brick.  Thank you for your considerations, donations, and interest in our museum !
