Enloe Museum Receives Texas and US Flags

The Clara Foster Slough Museum in Enloe is now the proud owner of a new flag pole.  Richard Duncan recently installed the post, along side of the museum in the alley, where outdoor exhibits are planned.  Lane Duncan presented the museum with a Texas State flag, which was flown over the capitol in Austin on August 8th, in honor or Richard Duncan and the Clara Foster Slough Museum, on Richards birthday.  Also, on August 8th, a US flag was flown over our Nations capitol in Washington, in honor of Richard and the Clara Foster Slough Museum.  We now have both flags, and will proudly display them during Enloe events !  We would like to thank the Congressman Ralph M. Hall, Architect of the Capitol Stephen T. Ayers, the Texas House of Representatives, and Sergeant-at-Arms Rod Welsch, and everyone involved in arranging for this honor.  We would like to recognize our own, Lane Duncan, for presenting the flags to the Clara Foster Slough Museum !

CLARA FOSTER SLOUGH MUSEUM RECEIVES HOCKADAY CENTENNIAL ANTHOLOGY

The Clara Foster Slough Museum is one of the first recipients of the just released Hockaday Anthology publication, printed in honor of the Hockaday Centennial Celebration.  This awesome book, containing details of the rich Hockaday history, is a great historical document.  The Clara Foster Slough Museum is so proud to have such a publication, which compliments the Hockaday family records, already documented in the genealogy archives.  We would like to recognize Angel and Lane Duncan, for presenting this document to the Enloe Museum, during the Enloe Homecoming 2013 celebration.  This limited edition document, is certainly a great addition to the Clara Foster Slough Museum.

ENLOE HOMECOMING 2013

The Enloe Homecoming 2013 was a roaring success, with well over 100 families represented at the gathering !  The Clara Foster Slough Museum welcomed many repeat visitors and several new guests, as the day unfolded.  Many friends and family toured the exhibits and discussed the artifacts, and some genealogy information was shared for the archives.  We certainly appreciate all of the information that the museum staff was allowed to copy and note.  As always, everyone shared the same feeling throughout the day, "we wished we had more time" !!  Everyone has busy schedules, and we certainly appreciate the time taken for the visits !!  See everyone next year !!

'Way Back in the Gardenia Rows' Book Signing Event

The Clara Foster Slough Museum will be hosting 'Way Back in the Gardenia Rows' author Kay Wheeler Moore, during a book signing event on Saturday, July 6.  The event will be held in conjunction with the Enloe 4th of July activities, from 2pm to 4pm.  The fun new cookbook/autobiography is filled with recipes and the stories that accompany them.  Great stories of local history, with the added bonus of great hometown recipes, make this book a great addition to both the kitchen and the library !

The Enloe Independence Day Celebration activities look to make for a fun and entertaining Saturday !!

Lane Duncan and his Enloe based 'Texas T-Rex' LSGTPA Youth Class pulling tractor plan on being on hand at the museum, and will have 'T-Rex' tattoos for the youngsters of all ages !

This would be a great time to bring that special item, that you have been thinking of presenting to the museum for display !  The museum has collections of horse shoes, marbles, military items, agricultural pieces, and all sorts of Enloe area historical items.  If you have an item that you feel would be of interest, please bring it in to the museum.  Items big and small, all have great stories  !!!  We would love to share your history !!
